Derbyshire Groups

Helen Atkin RDA

We provide riding therapy for local disabled children and adults using selected horses and ponies. We work from the Buxton Riding School with riders from local schools and adult centres

Mid Derbyshire RDA

Mid-Derbyshire Riding For The Disabled Association is based on Red Hill Lane, Tansley, Derbyshire. With our friendly horses and a whole host of dedicated volunteers, we provide therapeutic riding opportunities to people with a variety of additional needs.

Scropton RDA

Scropton RDA is a purpose built RDA centre based in the village of Scropton, South Derbyshire. Through horses we offer opportunities to make real and lasting differences to the lives of local disabled adults and children. Activities available include riding, horse-care and horse agility. With both indoor and outdoor arenas we are open throughout the year.

Ashmount RDA

Ashmount RDA group was founded in 1982 specifically for the pupils attending Ashmount School, Loughborough. Ashmount is a special school for pupils between the ages of 4 and 19 with a range of special educational needs. The group is run by a strong and highly committed team of volunteers. The aim of the group is to encourage as many Ashmount pupils as possible to enjoy the benefits of horse riding in a safe and secure environment. With the support of the school staff and their extensive knowledge of individual pupil’s needs, the riding sessions are a great success.

Kimberley House RDA

Kimberley house RDA offers riding sessions to children with physical disabilities. We meet each Thursday afternoon during term time at Witham Villa Equestrian Centre, Broughton Astley, Leics.

Mount Group RDA

Based in Somerby, we are a friendly, dedicated team of over 50 volunteers, including coaches who have had specialist training to support disabled riders. We provide weekly therapeutic riding lessons for children and adults with special needs. We also have a simulator horse that comes complete with a virtual reality TV screen, which simulates riding on a real horse through different environments. We enable our riders to experience the new skills, freedom and joy that riding brings. Together with our horses and ponies we help make dreams come true.

Springbridge RDA

Based in Willoughby Waterleys, Springbridge Driving for the Disabled offers carriage driving in a safe, supportive and happy environment to adults and children with special needs, physically disabled or with learning difficulties. We aim to make a difference to the lives of disabled people in a very special way, providing them with the opportunity to carriage drive that will bring new dimensions and encourage independence. The focus is to ensure that all visitors derive maximum benefit from a positive and enjoyable form of therapy.

Wenlo RDA

Based in Normanton-on-Soar, Wenlo RDA Group offers adults and children with physical and/or learning disabilities an opportunity to ride or look after horses to help their health, confidence and self-esteem. We aim to teach new skills and promote independence by encouraging our riders to take charge of their horse in a safe and secure environment. Our riders can enjoy a variety of activities in addition to lessons

Cleethorpes & Grimsby RDA

Cleethorpes and Grimsby RDA are a small friendly group that has been established over 30 years providing horse riding as therapy. We are very lucky to have a team of dedicated Coaches and volunteers who provide 6 sessions a week for our group based at Cottagers Plot Equestrian Centre, Laceby, Grimsby. We have a variety of horses and ponies at our fingertips to cater from absolute beginners to experienced riders. We also have a mechanical horse on site which is used as an introduction to riding.

Kesteven Rideability

Established in 1988 and based in the Lincolnshire village of Hough on the Hill we are an independent charity and member group of the Riding for the Disabled Association offering a range of riding and equine therapy activities for disabled adults and children.  In a safe and supportive rural setting we provide an inclusive and exciting outdoor activity and the chance to interact with our horses and ponies in a positive and beneficial way.

Lincolnshire Wolds RDA

Based at Lincolnshire Rural Activities Centre, Kenwick Hill, Louth our RDA group meets several times a week to enjoy riding and driving our ponies. Our group is open to all people with any disability, and we offer a wide range of activities from therapeutic riding and driving to competitions at home and away. We hold many activity days, holiday camps and structured learning days in both term time and holidays. We are lucky to be based in a centre with an indoor arena so driving and riding take place all year - whatever the weather!

Belvoir Vale RDA

Belvoir Vale RDA is proud to be a member group of the Riding for the Disabled Association. We offer a wide range of equestrian opportunities for adults and children with disabilities. The group is based at Belle Vue Stables in the beautiful village of Colston Bassett. To ensure our riders have the best possible experience, riding sessions are held with a very small number of riders. We offer lessons in the arena, walks in the country, summer schools and the chance to compete in RDA events.

Dovecote Farm RDA

We provide riding lessons to disabled children from local schools and helping them to reach their full potential as riders. Our group is based at Dovecote Farm equestrian Centre in Orston.

Dukeries RDA

Dukeries Riding for the Disabled is based at the Dukeries Riding Centre. It is a small group - only five horses and ponies - run by a small but very caring and enthusiastic team.

Greenwood RDA

Based at Eastfield Farm, King's Clipstone, in the heart of Sherwood, we provide essential exercise, therapy and fun for disabled people through horse-riding. Our sessions are taught by qualified and experienced volunteer Coaches, supported by trained volunteer helpers. We work with healthcare and education professionals and make riding available whatever a client's physical, sensory or learning impairment and whatever their financial circumstances.

Nottinghamshire RDA

Here at the Nottingham Group of Riding for the Disabled, we are a happy and friendly group providing riding lessons for children on Thursdays during term time. We are based at Lings Lane Riding Stables in Keyworth, Nottinghamshire. We hire our fabulous pony friends from the venue, but we have our own tack and equipment. Riding takes place in an outdoor all-weather arena and along adjoining bridleways and in fields, so our riders experience the magic of the countryside.

Papplewick Riding for the Disabled is aimed at giving Opportunities, Freedom, and Inspiration to people with a physical or mental disability in Notts.

South Notts RDA

South Notts are a small and informal RDA group who meet on Wednesdays. We provide horse riding sessions for people with disabilities at Lings Lane Riding Stables in Keyworth, Nottinghamshire.

Ruddington RDA Group helps school children with learning difficulties to ride for therapy, achievement and fun on Thursday afternoons during term time at Normanton-on-Soar

Cottesbrooke RDA

The Cottesbrooke RDA provides therapeutic horse riding for people with a disability or special need. Riding can be particularly beneficial to people who have profound and multiple learning difficulties because it is multi-sensory experience. It can help with communication and social skills, build confidence, and awareness of others. Groups run from April to mid-October

Grafton RDA

Grafton RDA Group provides weekly therapeutic riding sessions for adults with a range of disabilities including acquired brain injury, autism and learning disability. We are a small, friendly group and ride all year on Thursday mornings during term time. We have access to a large school, a small covered barn for very wet weather and grass tracks round the fields.

Hannah Payne RDA

The Hannah Payne RDA Group was formed in 2007, in memory of and as a legacy to Hannah, who died tragically at the age of 17 years, in a car accident. Hannah loved her ponies and the time she spent riding and competing on them. Our wish was that her ponies would be used to benefit disabled children, giving them the amazing therapy that riding provides.

Hillcrest RDA

Hillcrest RDA provides therapeutic horse riding for children and adults with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) in the Daventry region. Riding can be particularly beneficial to people who have profound and multiple learning difficulties because it is multi-sensory experience. It can help with communication and social skills, build confidence, and awareness of others. The group is located on the Northamptonshire/Warwickshire border.

Kettering & District RDA

At Kettering Riding for the Disabled we operate during school term-time on Wednesday and Thursday mornings. We provide riding lessons for approximately 50 children from six Special Schools in Northamptonshire - Isebrook, Kingsley, Maplefields, Northgate, Wren Spinney and Rowengate.

Wilby RDA

Wilby RDA provides therapeutic riding for primary aged children with a disability or special needs. Riding can be particularly beneficial to people who have profound and multiple learning difficulties because it is multi-sensory experience. It can help with communication and social skills, build confidence, and awareness of others. The group operates Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday mornings term time. They work with local schools on weekdays and families on Saturdays.
